Installing a Printer (Windows 2000 or XP)Background information (can be skipped)Roaming profiles are not in use here within the Gonda network, therefore your printers and desktop contents are different depending on which workstation you log onto. If you "roam" around, meaning use multiple workstations, you'll need to set up a printer on each one that you use. Installation1. To call up the "Add Printer" screen: On Windows 2000
Start On Windows XP
Start 2. At the "Local or Network Printer" screen, choose A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer. Click Next 3. At the "Specify a Printer" screen, choose the 2nd selection: Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer) Select this option and click Next . You can leave the field blank and click Next 4. It may take a moment before a list of printers come up in the main box. When choices are shown, different level of detail may be listed. You'll need to scroll down to the GONDA level and expand it by double clicking on it. Then Scroll down until you find Helix and expand that too.
Microsoft Windows Network then choose a printer listing that has a name corresponding to your office/lab room number. (e.g.) If you're in the 6th fl. room 6111, this is your printer: \\HELIX\hg6111 5. Click Next when you have selected the correct printer. A window will pop up asking if you want to make this your default printer. Select your choice and click Next. Another window should pop up saying that the printer has been successfully added. Click Finish and the new printer you have added should now show up under your list of Printers and Faxes. You're done!
